First off I see other people say you bleed, you do not bleed. They are talking about the abortion pill. The pill you are talking about is the moring after pill as you said or it is also called plan B.I have taken this before after having unportected sex.You can get it from planned partent hood with in 48 hrs after unprotected sex. They will give you a pregnancy test, and then if neg fill a Rx for the pills at the office. It is actually 3 pills each you take a few hrs in between.I took the first before leaving the office with no side effects, the second I took 3 hours later. And the next I was to take 4 hours later which left me at waking up at 2 in the moring to do so.When I woke up I threw up twice. And then took my 3rd pill. They also gave me fenagain(spelling) it is an anti-nasua medicine in a pill form.It really didn't help. This pill is not the the abortion pill. This actually stops the sperm from reaching the egg so there is no pregnancy. You must recieve these pill within 48 hrs after unportected sex or they will be useless. With in the next year they will be available with out a precription, and over the counter in any prarmancy. So to answer your question all it does is make you throw up.You may get a little headache that you can take tylonal for.All in all it is a good choice for an accident. But is by no means a method of birth control to be used regulary.Your friend should disuss with her dr. the options of birth control for her to prevent this happening again. There is no shame in useing the day after pill.It is a personal choice. There are also no know health risks.I hope I helped. Please e-mail me if you have any more concerns! GOOD LUCK!

I took Plan B when I was a teen, well actually I took several other pills in combination which made the same thing as Plan B was illegal in Canada at the time. This is because a condom broke. I learned my lesson and from then on used two forms of birth control. There are lots of different forms of birth control, but anyway that isn't what you asked. But I won't yell at you (or your friend) sh*t happens, now if you are asking about taking it more than once... well...

When I got the pills they gave me two gravol. Good thing because the morning after pill made me really sick, and you do not want to puke up a pill. I was nauseous and you know that nasty sick feeling you can get when you have a really bad period, it felt like that.

I went on the pill afterwards, and I don't remember if I waited to have a period in between or not? It was 9 years ago *lol*

As for what it does, it prevents the egg from implanting, if there is a fertilized one.

Nothing happened and that's the point! I didn't get pregnant. No side effects for me. And I don't think yelling would be a good idea. Actually acidents do happen, and thankfully there is a pill out there that can prevent pregnancy when accidents happen. Condoms can and do break! I wouldn't recommend it as a form of birth control but if unprotected sex has occurred and being pregnant is out of the question then taking the pill is responsible. It sure beats abortion (and I'm sure less costly). I have the number for the Emergency Contreception Pill (ECP) stored in my cell phone. I can't wait until it's available over the counter.. the calling a nurse thing and having insurance pay for it is ridiculous. The same people that would yell at you for taking it would scream at you for having an abortion then turn their backs and frown on you for collecting welfare.

The morning after pill is also referred to as plan B. It is similiar to birth control pills available on the market, except it is a much higher dose. The morning after pill is available at planned parenthood, often without parental notification or consent. The morning after pill is most effective when taken shortly after unprotected sewual intercourse. It can, however be used for up to 3 days after unprotected sex. The effectiveness of the pills depends on where you are in your monthly cycle and how long ago you had unprotected sex. The morning after pill is not an abortion pill. It is a birth control pill. Some people look it at as an abotion pill because it can be called an abortificient. This is a medication that prevents a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus. The morning after pill can works in a few ways, depending on where you are in your cycle- it can change the cervical mucus to prevent sperm from penetrating the egg, or prevent ovulation, or change the lining of the uterus to prevent ovulation once it has occured.

I have taken Plan B before. I had no side effects. The only side effect that I got warned against was that it can make some young women sick to their stomachs. I didn't experience that.

p.s. If you were referring to the abortion pill, that is NOT the morning after pill.....that is RU 486.

Its just a high dose of hormones in regular birth controls pills that prevents implantation of and embryo. The estrogen makes you feel nauseous. It's not the pill that makes your period heavier, you are probably thinking of iud's which are pieces of copper that they implant in the uterus as another form of emergency birth control. The pill that someone else mentioned that actually aborts an implanting embryo is something else. It can be dangerous if she's under 18, so she should only take it if a doctor gives it to her and she shouldn't make it a habit because regular use can have dangerous side-effects.

when I took it I got really really sick for a couple days, I was in bed throwing up and couldn't move. the next day my period showed up and it was really really heavy, this pill isn't something you want to take if you think you might be pregnate, only if you know for a matter of fact your pregnate. I will never take this pill again.

Well, it REALLY can protect you from unwated pregnancy or facing the unattractive options of abortion or adoption. My best friend took it twice and just felt fine.
