Hold on to the tab and work it one tooth at a time until you get it unzipped. Sounds like it was not line up right . I have fixed many zippers this way. You have to wiggle the tab back and forth at each tooth to catch them.

you can take the jacket to your local dry cleaners, they usually offer some sort of clothing repair; they can usually have your jacket back to you in less than 5 days, depending on whether or not the zipper that needs to be replaced will have to be ordered, if the zipper has to be ordered it could take a couple of extra days...dry cleaners usually only charge the cost of the zipper and a few dollars for the repair...so about $7-10...good luck!

the element to drag up the zipper broke off in my daughter's jacket too and that i reported that she positioned on yet another one yet she extremely loved this one and does not replace. i grabbed between the tie wraps and slid it contained in the hollow. i did not pull all of it the way via and left a ring so she will be able to truly pull it up or down. it has survived yet another iciness and it did not poke her small hands

If all else fails, you can pry the slider slightly apart. Wedging a small screwdriver into the slot in the slider can do it. Afterward you can line it up properly and gently squeeze the slider to return it to its proper spacing.
