are all humans as good at running as each other ?

No they are not equally gifted, however flocks of birds have a tendency to fly at the speed of the slowest fliers, so in one sense the weak and the slow lead the group.

That is until a predator enters the scene then the stronger and faster escape while the weak and the slow die.

There is an interesting logical argument for the behavior. the swift accomodate the slow in the migration process allow the slow a better shot at survival, however the slow provide the swift with the better chance at survival for two reasons:

1 the faster bird has more reserve energy to escape a threat
2 The slower bird supplies the swift with an exit strategy because the predator will attack them first.

Theoretically over time, the population of sparrows will continue to speed up because the stronger and faster sparrows survive to reproduce while the slower die out. And that is what they call evolution.

Only twenty sparrows? that is a choice of 20 to 1.
It is my understanding that in theory all are equal but this is not the case with nature.

Kind regards

To us, all 20 sparrows look alike -- and seem to be equally adept at flying. But each is a unique individual, harboring its own unique gene sequences. This means that some are stronger flyers than others.

What you do not see, is that a very few birds received genes that were inferior, and could not fly at all. Those birds have probably already died.

They aren't equally gifted. They are much like humans. Some are dependent on the sparrows age.
