Ask the media, not us. I agree with you. The media is to blame for at least 80% of the problems today.

It matters because Gerald Ford is one of the few men who sat in that chair and did the job; he also is a man who employed Cheney and Rumsfeld and knows the men. It matters because Ford was a Republican. It also shows that Ford did respect the country enough to not criticize the administration despite his personal feelings.

I agree that we need to be in Iraq, and I think the press is clearly not on America's side in the war.
But if Ford said it, I think we should hear about it. We can evaluate for ourselves how important we think it is.
If he were a vocal supporter I'd want to know about it too. Maybe the press wouldn't have told us that though! :)
Also, it's odd that Ford said "don't release the comments until after I die." It would make more sense for the country's sake to say don't release it until the war's over. It seems kinda cowardly to say it and let it out while the war's still on, but when you don't have to explain or defend the comment. Ford may have been ailing and didn't think it through. Whatever . . .

The media has shown respect for Ford.Showing the man's interviews is not bush-bashing,Do you want the media censored unless it supports your cause? Is THAT the conservative's idea of freedom??Bush screwed up,that's the way it is.No amount of whining will change it.

Well according to people like you, it doesn't matter how ANYone feels about the president's Iraq policy. Maybe you (and the Bush administration) need to be reminded that here in this democracy, the opinion of the people actually DOES matter.

He's YOUR president not MINE, first of all.
Second of all, he does a better job of making himself look like an idiot than the all the alleged left-wing media conspiracies in the world could ever do.
He is a failure. He will be remembered as one of the worst presidents in history. Accept it and move on. Stop defending the court jester in the White House. More than half the country and the entire rest of the planet realize he is a f*cking reckless MORON. When will you?

the media does show respect for an elder statesman upon his death when it reports his views on current events. it is a very poignant and extremely appropriate form of homage to a former world leader to show that he was still intellectually engaged by public affairs.
it is people with your attitude, who would defend w (the biggest mass murderer in us history) at any cost, who show disrespect by wishing to suppress mr. ford's opinion.
watch who you call "our" president. this tin-plated, tin-headed, intellectually impaired and morally bankrupt trust baby was not duly elected by this nation. you can call the president "ours" again when we have one who is not there by virtue of his party controlling the supreme court. hopefully, he will be one who cares more about the lives of our soldiers and defending american interests than he does about driving up the cost of oil and protecting the interests of saudi arabia's royal family.
get a clue and a grip

I'm guessing if Ford backed Bush's Iraq plan, you wouldn't complain? Conservatives HATE dissent, they're so adamant about "staying the course" and being "lockstep", even if it's over the cliff's edge. Sad.

I don't think the media was using his remarks as a political weapon, Ford said he wanted to his remarks released after his death.

Because Ford was a republican. So when a former republican President disagrees with a current Republican President, it becomes news worthy.
