The wooden stick was either a cane or ruler. They were called cane or ruler. The ruler was still used in my primary school and that was in the 1960's. I have looked on website just in case I had got it wrong, but they are all saying the same, ruler or cane. On the blackboard easel was a cane and pointe stick.

Another name for the wooden stick used in the classrooms of the victorian era is a pointe stick, this is 6 letters.
