Whenever i see teens they always want to learn to play electric guitar. Also, in schools accoustic guitar doesn't seem to be a popular instrument cause bands don't use it. So mostly kids learn Piano, Violin, Flutes, other wind instruments and drums.

Is there a reason kids don't like to learn accoustic guitar and why schools also don't incorporate the instrument into their music programs?

It seems as though kids don't like to learn it cause it's NOT COOL, that's how they see it. They think it's an instrument for the old, and plus MTV and all those things they watch never include it.

its not so much about the acoustic guitar not being "cool" (many kids like playing it). Most kids seem to think the guitar is only needed in rock or contemporary bands and not in school bands or formal music training. of course, schools could also try to include guitar in the music programs more. many school jazz bands also include guitarists as well. also, acoustic guitar is just not that loud unless amplified, so it is somewhat unpractical in large orchestra or band settings. i personally love playing the acoustic guitar.

I have an acoustic guitar. I would love an electric guitar because of the sound. But I have an acoustic for classical and folk music.

An electric guitar just seems to have so much more scope. I think they are beautiful. But the next thing I'm buying is a violin..

My son's best friend could play 19 different instruments by age 16. Accoustic guitar and drums are his favorites. He released a CD last yr. of a song he wrote for the accoustic guitar.

Kids think a flute is cool but a guitar isn't? I think you are getting bad information. It is not taught in schools because it is not considered a classical instrument and it has not been widely accepted in any main stream orchestras.

MTV goes where the money is and right now that is with Rap music and they don't use any instruments.

There are plenty of main stream popular artists that play the acoustic. Garth Brooks is just one of them.

My son plays both electric and acoustic and loves them both.
