Soon-to-be ex husband has not seen son for 2 years. He has been telling everyone I have stopped contact. Now, he's decided to see son properly but his mum feels like it's a victorious moment!!?????!!!! - she thinks it's great he can see his son now when he always could.......

Can I have some male responses too........why would you stop seeing your son? Is it too painful, do you bread relationship with Mum and therefore with child or are some just not 'dads'?

in some cases: for exactly the same reason that some women deny access... its part of a power game.

it helps his self esteem, and poitentially his mates esteem if the reason he cites for not seeing his child is the mothers actions rather than his own lack of action.

I thionk in some cases some men just want to walk awya seeing the child as "lost"... ie being brought up by 'that' women and no longer his responsibility. There may also be an element of 'im not going to support 'that' women in any way shape or form.

mind you it could just as easily be ignorance and juevenile behaviour

First, why are you just divorcing him now if he hasn't been around for 2 years? it sounds like he is seeking to see the child now out of spite. To get even with you. If he is good to his son than this could be the start of something wonderful for both of them. Although it hurts you, try to put yourself in his boys shoes and be happy that he now has the opportunity to know his Dad. Good or bad he will learn who his father is on his own not by what you or others tell him. Be happy for your son. Ignore what he's saying about the past and make the future better for your son.

Some men like to feel hard done by and if they know they are in the wrong may try and mask this with falsehoods. They get a lot of sympathy and media attention e.g. Father's for Justice. I'm not saying all fathers are like this, a lot of the time they do get the raw deal, but as I said there are some who will want to play on that fact and don't dare admit they were in the wrong

People's actions are determined by how they feel and relationship breakups do make you feel bad, very bad. Depression and other grief-related mental illnesses set in and you end up committing the craziest mistakes, the cruellest ones, too. When the time comes to set things right, then forgiveness is needed more than ever.

Mine hasn't seen his kids for 4 years, pays nothing, owes £32k, but shoves his nose in at school.

He is allowed to see them, but as the years have gone on my boys have grown wise (12 & 14) and can't be bothered with him, as he has not bothered with them! and yes i do offer every week to take them to his house or for them to call him

I would say some of these people (and yes, I've seen it in women as well as men) are just fishing for sympathy.
