That's exactly that - "they can't control", so they are afraid of it because they are not sure what impact it will have on their being. Maybe it's because humans are the most spoiled of the whole creation. We can control almost everything, including that we can float - thus controlling force of gravity. The one thing we mostly are afraid of is death. If there can be a way of us negotiating ourselves out of death or at least generally control when and how it should come then, I bet my last penny, we would be looking forward to it. Some would even put trade marks on it!

I think people are afraid of what they can't control only if they're used to controlling everything, because then something they can't control is something they don't understand. It's natural to be wary of what you don't understand because it may be a threat to you in some way you haven't figured out yet.

I don't see why this frightens them. What most people don't realize is they don't have control over anything other then themselves. They may think they have control but in reality they don't.

There is no need to be afraid if it can be controlled.... fear is always regarding uncertainty beyond one's own control. The root cause for fear is desire... we desire a particular thing or state and when we think we may not get it or attain it, we fear the failure or pain of not fulfilling our desire.
