My favorite Italian restaurant in the North End is Mother Anna's. It is on Hanover St (the main drag) at the very end near the exit to the Sumner Tunnel. It has a very romantic ambiance and the food is top notch. John F Kennedy used to dine there. It is family owned and I have been going there for more than 15 years. You will not be disappointed.
If you want fantastic authentic Mexican fare, I suggest Casa Romero on Gloucester St. Another one of my favorites.

If you want italian I'd suggest you go to the North End of Boston. Plenty of really nice places that won't break the bank. I'd suggest Lo Conte's, il Villaggio and Bella Vista (small cozy place). If you want comfort food you should stop at Sports Grill Boston or Boston Beer Works right accross from Fenway. They both have a lot of beer on tap, tons of big flat panels and are hot spots on the weekend, though not as romantic as the little italian places. Have fun.

What part of Boston are you looking to go eat in? There are great places all over. It really depends on what section of Boston you are looking for. That said if you want Italian you should go to the North End. Also you could go to Fanueil Hall which has alot of places but they are all touristy.

As a treat of sorts, the best clam chowda' was at The Black Rose, a small pub with class. Best Japanese was Bisateckies (spelling).

I went to Boston and ate at Legal Seafood. The seafood was fresh, the clam chowder was really good, the service was very friendly...it's a Boston institution. If you're going to Boston, you have to eat there, at least for lunch.

Only place I could recommend is Bob The Chef's but it is gone. I recommend eating in New York or bringing food with you to Boston. Maybe you could bring your chef from home and he could use the hotel kitchen.
