I just recently bought an old house and discovered I have these bugs living in the wood siding. I have been told it is due to the boxelder trees in my yard. Can I get rid of them without having to pay the bug man every year? They are in the house too in the summer.

My mother, who lives in Montana where Box Elders seem to thrive, uses one of those electronic pest controllers. She very seldom has any insects in her house.

They are BAD and the smell....Unfortunately..... My uncle had the same problem and after many things.. He finally had to get a professional bug man to come in and get rid of them.. He also had to spray the yard because they(the bugs) are all over.... what a stink

I hearby solemnly swear this works for box elder bugs!! Fill a spray bottle with soapy water (I use dishwashing liquid) and spray them. Kills them on contact. I don't know why this works but evidenlty these bugs don't like soap! I actually give my kids spray bottles and they have a blast killing bugs!

See if you can buy them fumagition bombs for these specific insects and smoke the buggers out. I know the Raid fumigation bombs work on roaches and such, so I'm pretty sure these beetles would die as well from the fumes.
