Think about it. The Superdome could have been turned into a semi-permanent shelter. Many of Katrina's victims are still displaced around the country, not much better off than they were after the tragedy. Besides the few charity tickets given to refugees, the stadium's seats are filled with people who did not suffer from Katrina. This people can afford high priced tickets and half of them are responsible for refusing refugees access to their nearby suburbs.
This team is not the 2001 Patriots. That team symbolized a nation coming together and America at its best. This team symbolizes apathy and governmental incompetency. Why should the government of N. O. benefit from a franchise? So they can make the French Quarters bigger? the biggest icon of debauchery in the U.S. Or maybe they can use the money to build more low income houses in a place scientist have been calling a danger zone for more than three decades.
I think Houston was the biggest help. They could share like the Jets/Giants

hey kenray- you are welcome. i donated 500 bucks to the red cross after seeing all those people stranded, as did many other people all across the country. katrina put many of these organizations in overdrive. so yeah nagin had most of the fault.. and now he will benefit the most.

I would have said of course, and city who wants to have an NFL team and can have it should be able to, but now that you put it in terms like this.... I see what you are saying. It is wrong in a sense, but only if the NO government isn't using partials of the profit from the Saints to help the poor. I guess there isn't any proof of them doing that though, at least that I can think of.
I guess I cannot answer your question with a yes or a no, because there are so many variables that would tilt my answer that I don't know.

The Superdome could have been a semi-permanent shelter? Please, take it from someone who lives in Louisiana and had to deal with refugees from Katrina and then live through Rita and work in her aftermath. In case anyone forgot, Rita was that "other" storm that hit SW LA and SE TX. Most people forgot about her because the people in that area evacuated properly, graciously accepted any help given from FEMA, church groups, the Red Cross, etc. and didn't whine and complain about their predicament. Folks in Mississippi and Alabama did the same thing when Katrina hit them.
The majority of the "victims" who are still misplaced by Katrina in New Orleans are those who have depended on the government their entire lives. In fact, one woman was shown on the news demanding that the Fed build her a house and get her checks coming in more frequently. She said that she'd depended on them so long that she couldn't "function" without them. I personally know plenty of people who are back in New Orleans and attempting to live as normal a life as possible because they want to be there, not because the government "owes" it to them. As far as the team symbolizing apathy and governmental incompetency, let me remind you that the Saints were just as displaced as the rest of the citizens of New Orleans. Granted, they have more money with which to rebuild and return, but that's the ultimate goal. Many of the players, including Drew Brees, who didn't even deal directly with Katrina, have moved back to New Orleans permanently and are out there helping folks cope. The primary fault of anything lies with Mayor Ray Nagin, Mary "No Clue" Landrieu and Kathleen "Idunnaknow" Blanco. They dropped the ball by refusing government aid until the last minute. They let the buses sit idle in the streets and allowed them to flood. THEY destroyed New Orleans more than Katrina ever could have.

OK Cheetos(I assume you call yourself that because of your hair) let me clue you in. I've lived in New Orleans all my life(63 years). My house flooded-not because of Katrina-but because the Federal Gov designed the levees wrong. They have accepted FULL responsibility and are currently rebuilding them to correct specs. Everyone I know is rebuilding without government aide and if those "displaced victims" had any b*lls they could do the same. Those that are still displaced are waiting for government handouts-which is how they lived when they were here before the hurricane. Now, as far as moving the city because of hurricane threats-that is stupid- then lets abandon Florida, the Gulf Coast, atlantic coast and California(earthquakes and fires). While we're at it lets move everyone from the plains because of the tornadoes and the poor folks in the north are always in a blizzard.
Now, about the folks turning away people trying to escape the flood-pure bullsh*t-the first group was taken in and instead of going to shelters they broke into a mall, looted it then set it on fire. The second bunch were offered busses to take them to shelters which they refused.
The city government doesnt profit from the Saints anymore than it does from any business-through taxes. The city thrives on tourism - and thats what the Saints bring-tourist and sportsmen.
Now-get off your applebox and learn before you open your mouth.

Man quit being such a buzz kill and just let them have their team.
1. Its a lot better example of American feel good story than the patriots. its no comparison
2. Any income/tourism being returned is positive.
3. If it keeps the spotlight on N.O and gives them something in their town to take pride in.
The entire hurricane event was horrible, a disaster, and aired out the country's biases and complete inadequacy. And when you think of the people who's lives are in shambles, ESPN covering this story like the saints are saving the city of New Orleans by making the playoffs is silly. But to act like they dont deserve their own team that they had to begin with before Katrina is beyond stupid.

its absolutely fine for NO to have a team
this season for them has been great and they all have came together the players do charity work and donate a lot of money
it also bring a lot of tourist into ther area and then when people get there they realize how bad it really is
and that's how people get involed in the rebuilding
i think if the saints leave NO the city will go rite down the drain.

Only if you want New Orleans to rebuild. Actually the football team is one of the best prescriptions for New Orleans. Its economy is based on tourism. Football is one of the major things that brings in the tourism dollars. New Orleans needs an economic base to recover.
Personally I think New Orleans should be rebuilt somewhere else, since it is guaranteed to be destroyed again as long as it's built in the same location, below sea level. But everyone wants to be politically correct and stupid.

NO. It is the only thing they have man, is their football. It would be wrong to take that team out of New Orleans now, after all that they've gone through and also with their little SB run this year.
