You could always try Villefranche-sur-Mer it is just outside of Nice (about 1 to 2 miles) Has train links to Nice and Monaco, I have visited there myself. There are some lovely places to eat and the local train service for tavelling is great.

It's good idea not to stay in Nice as some gorgeous quiet villages are all around.
I'd suggest Villefranche sur Mer, Eze-bord de Mer and Roquebrune-Cap Martin. They all are magnificent resorts.

You can stay in Cannes, or St Tropez.
