To remove red wine stains from a white woolen cardigan, use OXI action. It's a washing up liquid for the washing machine. Put it in and it should be gone.

Basically, like dissolves like; it's all to do with polarity. There is a myth doing the rounds in some circles, that white wine temporarily dissolves the pigments in red wine, so use some white wine followed by copious rinsing in lukewarm water (without detergent).

vinegar i think works, there loads of sites offering how to remove stains. 3 days ago though will be hard to shift get a good wollen, try to remove it best you can and you then have a new cardigan lol, a stain don't have to be a problem just work with it lol. If its someone else get the finger out and keep searching and just make it as little seen as you can.

What ever you do - do not rinse it in warm or hot water as this sets the stain, i would go along with the consensus and pour white wine on it or if it is still wet with the red wine pour salt on it before rinsing in cold water.

White wine does help but I think more care needs to be taken as you want to get it out of wool.
Try this link. The section for wool is at the bottom of the page.
