If you want an first class typer you have to practise to type, without looking the keyboard. You can practise it by steps.

First try to type words contains three or four A letters.(Without looking the keyboard). It doesn't matter you typed wrongly other than the A letters in your word. Keep on practising for a day or two.

Then go to letter B. Do the Same thing to all letters. If you have the dedication you need to work hard only Three weeks. You'll be the best. i succeded with this way.

The easy way is to simply keep practicing, look at the keyboard at first and get used to the key placements, you'll soon realise that keys really are set out in a way in that your fingers can navigate them without you even noticing. For example, the J and F keys usually have raised bumps, so, you can normally find these keys pretty easily, and work your way out from there.

To increase speed simply find a sentence you can remember well, such as "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" (as it uses every single letter) and repeat it as fast as you can in Notepad or any other application, ignore errors at first, if you make a mistake, hit enter and start a new line until you can get all the keys properly without making mistakes. Then, speed up slightly, try and hit the keys a little faster, you'll notice your accuracy is really bad to begin with, but just keep trying.

Eventually without looking you'll find you can type along to slow music, which is actually how i learnt. I then moved on to slightly faster music, and now i can type at a decent rate... (Helps as i'm a programmer too)

Dont look at the keys as one answer suggests. You need to learn how to touch type, i.e looking at the screen and NOT at the keyboard. This takes a lot of practice but you can teach yourself I believe. I was taught this and would find it very odd to look at the keyboard as it would slow me down.

Mavis Beacon is good, but if you decide to just practice, make sure you use the home row keys. and that you are using the right fingers on the right keys
