I was once told "the media doesn't tell people what to think, they tell the people what to think about".

Yes the Iraq war is an important issue...

meanwhile...

more people die in traffic accidents each year
more babies are killed per day
more people die of cancer
people are still fat and dying of heart disease
people still smoke themselves to death

dare I even bring up the topic of gay marriage?

I say we take a little time away from focusing on Bush's IQ and discuss something DIFFERENT.

i couldn't have said it anybetter. people are complaing that there lives are so horrible because or Iraq! I mean really! The media does tell us what to think about, and it brings to our attention things that we would not find out on our own cause we are too hung up on our own lives. The politician that can address those issues is the one who has my vote!

Yes, but many of the problems you describe are personal in nature. The Federal government has limited power to tell people to stop eating burgers or to stop smoking. The "nanny state" invariably does more harm than good when it becomes too heavy handed. We already have a conservative backlash against our social safety net - more heavy handed government interference will just make it worse.

The Iraq war is a hot topic becaue most Americans now understand that we were lied into it and that it was unplanned and poorly executed. It is also now the most expensive thing on the government's tax ticket. It is a mistake we keep making and the American people want to get out. However, our elected "representative" - Bush - is listening to himself instead of the people who put him in office. It will remain the topic of the day until our men and women come home. And, really, we can't pay for all that other stuff you want to do when some much cash is going to Iraq.

Do you have any sources for these claims:
more people die in traffic accidents each year
more babies are killed per day
more people die of cancer
people are still fat and dying of heart disease
people still smoke themselves to death

You sound like a liberal...more government in people's lives...yes, there are other issues besides the Iraq war, but thyis administartion seems to think that Iraqi citizens are more deserved of our tax dollars than our own citizens. Liberals want to keep the money in the US for their social agenda, and the Bush admin. wants to promote THEIR agenda in Iraq. America loses...but as it is, at 4 billion dollars a week, the Iraq war FAR outweighs ANY other issues facing america. Sorry, we aren't going to just ignore it. Screaming about it for years seems to be the only way to get through to the Bush admin...and you will have dems to thank for forcing Bush to look at the war with his eyes OPEN. BTW, do you have a source about the rising rate of INFANTICIDE? or are you referring to abortion, a settled law of the land for over 30 years? You want to keep discussing THAT one, that costs tax payers ZERO dollars? Talk about beating a dead horse...

Good point, but you still had to throw in an insult to our President. Why?

The media does try to tell people what to think. When they can't find a story that matches their opinion, they only tell the part of the story that fits, or they completely make up lies.

People also kill and injure themselves every day skiing, riding motorcycles, rock climbing, scuba diving, etc. This is a free country, and you can do just about whatever you want with your life.

Yes, and hopefully with the change of power in Congress, some of the real issues facing this country that have been ignored will start getting attention.

Yes there are many issue that need addressing but are being ignored by the media, because there focus much like the same focus on answers deals more with bashing than actual facts.

You forgot the war we are fighting against the illegal aliens on our own soil! The media is using the Iraq war as a ploy to keep focus off what is happening in OUR country!
