well i disagree with grey silhoutte about if he has no qualification then he cant get in. It is so intrue. The companies who only hire engineers are the ones with all the personnel problems. Most of the people i work with are only high school educated and are very far on. I myself am only high school educated and am now working offshore as a supervisor on £350 - £400 a day depending on the location. Not bad for someone with no qualifications.
His best bet is to get his offshore survival course and medical done and look on the web for job offshore. He will get something for sure because there is not enough people in the industry at the moment.

Unless he is American, all the above answers are correct. You need to have technical qualifications to work in the European offshore industry. However in the states of Louisiana and Mississippi it it seems very easy for those of low intelligence to obtain employment on oil rigs.

There's a cultural difference which is generally acknowledged. In Europe, a person has to be technically skilled and qualified to work offshore. In America,, it is usually uneducated rednecks who work in the oil field- ( hence the term oilfield trash)

This difference becomes apparent when you see workers from BOTH cultures on the same rigs in Kazakhstan, Africa etc. It's embarrassing. Most American oilfield workers have the IQ of a 12 year old. And a knowledge of geography to match.

Your boyfriend hasnt got a cat in hell`s chance of working the rig`s if he has no qualification`s unless he has a family member working on them who he can work alongside to show him the rope`s but even then the chances are very slim as you need load`s of safety certificate`s and fittness certificate`s .
Tell him to try his luck elseware he may stand a better chance !

This isn`t a get rich quick scheme that has been planted in his head I hope?Qualifications are needed as well as, balls, for what is a highly dangerous job at the best of times if you have the stuff to start go for it but ,it won`t be easy rider stuff.

I can not believe you asked this, Oil Rigs are, by their very nature, staffed by highly skilled people. Those in the North Sea are difficult to reach, the weather is atrocious, the work demanding, both Physically and Mentally. If he has no qualificaions he needs to get some.
