I have to admit....
The most serene time I have ever had was during a full moon deep in the deserts of Kuwait.

Nothing lives there, period, above ground.

Imagine a rolling landscape of desert dunes illuminated by a HUGE full moon on a crystal clear evening. The stars overhead were absolutely unobstructed by even ambient light because I was so far out in the desert.

Nope -- we're out here. My husband and I had the extreme good fortune to spend time in the desert right after some wonderful rains and were in awe at the resurrected beauty of all the plants. But even in the dryest of times, there is SO MUCH there to show you how great it is -- LOVE IT. Hope to move out west on retirement to be able to spend more time there. Lucky you!

I agree with you, I used to travel alot and when we would drive throught the desert at night, I felt so isolated, but in a good way. Plus it is just breathtaking to look at the moonlight being relected off the sand, it almost look like an ocean of blue sand, really moving.
