Poetic.... Well, I'd have to go with Dylan, even the he's not my favorite singer/songwriter, he's probably the most poetic.

Tupac Shakur - he was more prophetic, I guess, than poetic - but his words really reached out to the masses, and this has made him legendary.
But, also, if I didn't think he was so disgusting and vile, Michael Jackson's original songs, like Man in the Mirror, Billy Jean, and others are pretty deep.
