Another powerful program is HijackThis.
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php#hijackthis. Run and Save a Log. When you log comes up copy and paste the entire log at http://www.hijackthis.de/ . Analyze your results. You will then get a screen that will tell you if you have any nasty stuff in your computer. Follow instructions to deal with any nasties. CAUTION: This is a very powerful tool. Be careful.

Sometimes it's best to just do a clean install. I've seen people waste an awful lot of time trying to repair an issue when a fresh install would have taken a fraction of the time.

Symantec have some good removal tools.
www.symantec.com/enterprise
after enterprise put a backslash then security underscore response backslash removaltools dot jsp
had to write it like that, the correct address wouldn't come up properly.
