WHAT I MEAN IS OUT OF THE FIFTY TWO STATES IN THE UNITED STATES, WHERE IS THE BEST STATE TO LIVE IN AS FAR AS THE COST OF LIVING IS NOT HIGH, RAISING A FAMILY, QUALITY EDUCATION AND LOTS OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE REGARDLESS OF BACKGROUND HISTORY OR PAST. Right now alot of people are saying the Carolinas. The prices are still low, weather is nice year round yet you still get seasons. Crime rates are low for the most part.

I wasn't aware there were 52 States..

As a generalization, the MidWest and South tend to have lower costs of living than the East or West coasts. Obviously, this is not including large metropolitan areas like Miami, Atlanta, Chicago. If you're trying to balance cost of living, employment, and a more diverse atmosphere you may wish to look at medium-sized University cities like Columbus, Ohio or Chattanooga, TN. Towns with large universities often have big foreign student populations which gives them a more culturally diverse feel. Most States will have some city that meets your requirement. You just need to pick a climate and area that you like and narrow your search.

I am from NJ and it is so expensive to live here in the Bergen/Passaic counties. Yet, if you go out to northern NJ to places like Sussex, it is so much cheaper and very beautiful. All states have their high and lows. Like one person said on here, you need to pick the climate you want first, i.e., Nevada is very hot, but dry with lots of deserts, but no oceans. Maine is very cold, but oh so beautiful, Pennsylvania is both with all pines, etc... There are inexpensive places to live in most states. Places with lower population, more country. Keep from big city areas for affordability. I downloaded Google Earth and it really gives a good look at locations and conditions of the entire USA and the world of course. Find an area you think would be nice and inquire about each location you are interested in. I am forced to live in NJ right now, but with Google Earth, I can think about where I would like to live and someday plan to go there. Personally, I made it up in my mind not to live too far from the oceans. I have been out as far as Indiana and it is so flat and dead out there, I know I could never live there. Homes are really cheap in Elwood Indiana, (under 20K) but there are no jobs. A near by town was abandoned. (Spooky) Most of central US is very flat, after that it is all deserts, up till you reach Colorado.
For me it looks like one of the coastal states. The west coast has a highway that runs along the ocean from the bottom of CA all the way up to Washington state. I don't know the cost of living there, but there has to be affordable towns somewhere in that region. Find an area you really like first, then inquire about the area is my best advice.

Fifty-two???

Not California. Not New York..... I've lived in both, loved NY and didn't like California....and now am back in Texas, where I'm from. Rents are a *whole* lot cheaper, I didn't have a hard time finding a job. I also lived for awhile in, and really liked, Chicago, IL which is less expensive than NYC, but Texas is less expensive than Chicago.

Cherokee County, Georgia. Very nice place to live. Lots of job opportunities. 2nd fast growing county in the state, but yet it's still sort of country and homey.
