Evidence that shows that there was more evidence. For example, if there was a body and a set of bloddy footprints....and another partial bloody footprint of a different type of shoe found just outside the building...it is considered trace evidence. Not direct evidence that proves something or could be held up in court...but essentailly a clue that would hopefully lead to a larger clue.

Trace evidence is when only a small amount of evidence was recoverable so therefore would possible not stand in trial because of the small amount or the evidence could be due to something that had occured in the past and was not relevant to the actualy crime scene that they are looking at.

It is as the term trace means , a small or very small item or speck of evidence that might be relevant to proof in a murder. For instance a hair that might be found next to a body, other than the victims, or a sample of DNA , like saliva, semen, blood, other than the victims.
