All I have heard the past couple days is Ex-pres. Ford. I understand he was president and everything, but give James some love. He is a legend and music icon. Think about the influence he has had on many other successful artists and the music industry as a whole. He has been part of America's pop culture and I feel a bigger story than Ford.

I'm not saying that he wasn't in the news, I just think he hasn't been talked about enough. Yes I know the President is a huge story. But, Ford is prob. one of the most forgettable presidents in recent history. And yes, I know James did some bad things, that's not my point.

I'm talking about James Brown - in fact, his body is lying in state less than 1 mile from my house, at the Apollo Theater (I'll be headed down there in a little while).

I could not care less about Gerald Ford - some political hack who only became vice president becase Spiro Agnew copped a plea to a felony, and then became president because Nixon resigned rather than be impeached.

James Brown, on the other hand, was a living legend of World Culture - he will be deeply missed now and in the future! I care a whole lot about him.

I think the silence about James Brown, and all the talk about a minor president who wasn't even elected, is largely racial - some White folks would rather honor a mediocrity of their own color, than to remember a giant of our color.

It's sad, and kinda pathetic...

Listen to the radio. That is where JB made his mark and they are doing a great job of honoring his life. The television people are going to broadcast what those in charge tell them to focus on. I listened to a PBS show Tuesday night that had Bootsy Collins and a bunch of old interviews with JB. The radio is the proper medium for this and they will do it right.

Considering that JB passed on Christmas, and he was the top story on Christmas Day, that says something... Plenty of coverage as far as I saw on mainstream TV, but of course Ford trumps JB, and probably rightly so.. However, still plenty of updates regarding JB being layed in state at Apollo, etc., and I'm sure there will be coverage of the memorial svc, etc.. But ex-pres does trump music icon, even one as pioneering as JB. Celeb deaths come in threes anyway, so someone else famous is gonna go soon...

Your sense of history is a little flawed. James Brown was huge in pop culture, it's true. But no musician is "bigger" than a President of the most powerful nation in the world.

No one is bigger than a president whether current or former. James Brown has been mentioned on the news along with his grieving wife/girlfriend whatever she was. That situation is going to get so ugly. When Richard Pryor died he was mentioned and thats about it.

I don't know where you are at, but here in Florida, that was the first thing I heard about when the alarm radio went off... James Brown. James was about fellowship and love, about lust and pride, in spite of his sometimes crazy life. May he rest in peace at last...

yeah, he should have been the president. He had been through alot, so nobody had taken a chance to listen to him, so he expressed himself in his music.
