What do most people put over the hole so it looks good but is still accessible? (I will be putting Berber carpet in bsmt)

The storage room idea is good, but you want to make sure that the sump pump is accessible for future repairs/ replacement. You'll also want to check it monthly to make sure that it is pumping. you don't want to damage that new carpet with water from an overflow due to neglect.

I've seen people do everything from building a storage room around it to creating elaborate built-in furniture. The common element is that it is always accessible for service.

We built a storage room around ours and left it as is.
