As you have had a full car license for 30 years and have the older licence type which allows you to drive vehicles up to 7.5ton etc you can also ride a 50cc and even carry a pillion without L plates. You must take a CBT and display L plates to ride a 125 and if you intend to ride a large capacity bike after taking your test you will have to take your test on a bike over 33bhp but the training school you choose will supply a suitable bike for you average cost is around £400 all in for tuition CBT and test. The CBT is easy all though I do know two people who were refused a certificate one because of a dangerous manoeuvre on the public road and the second ran in to a parked car while training in a car park so it is possible to fail it. I would recommend you do it asap as the Government plan to make it more difficult to get a licence to ride large capacity bike to stop new riders killing them selves on 160bhp superbikes the day they pass their test. So good luck get a bike you wont regret it.

you are required to take a CBT (Certified basic training) course. These are guaranteed passes, they pretty much teach you the basics of motorcycling.

They were introduced in the early 90's, motorcycle accidents dramatically decreased.

the CBT certificate is a 1 day (usually half a day) course. The certificate is valid for 2 years, within that time you should go for your full bike license.

Your local motorcycle instructors usually provide this training. You can probably get there numbers in the yellow pages or local papers.

You need a CBT to ride anything, even a 50 (49)cc bike. there is no exemption. if it needs taxing/insuring, you need to do it.

If you only have provisional status on your license then you will need to take your CBT (a bit like the old cycling proficiency test but on a motorcycle) with L Plates you can ride a bike up to a max of 33BHP usually a 125cc. this is valid for 2 years by which time you should take your test.

My state (Ohio) offers a riding course. It's a 2 1/2 day course. Friday was all the book work stuff which ended w/ an open book test the following day. Then all day Saturday & Sunday we learned to ride on 250cc bikes that were supplied along with helmets. The instructors taught everything from take-off, breaking, proper riding techniques, and so on. Then on Sunday after a day of riding we took a test and if you passed the test you received a card saying you passed the course. We took this to our DMV and were then certified motorcycle riders. If you take a course like this one, you may even get a break on your insurance because you took a riders safety course.

best thing u could do is take a motorcycle safety class. not sure about the uk, but in the states, many states will waive the on-cycle test to get the endorsement.
riding a bike is an entirely different animal than driving a car. they're alot of fun, but a mistake can get u in a world of hurt.

Depends where you live. Check with your Department of Motor Vehicles Drivers Testing.

Some states in the USA you can drive a motorcycle, some restrict how many cc's the bike may have. Others like California you can operate a motorcycle with a sidecar. (remember Gov. Schwarzeneger got in trouble, took his sidecar off his Harley and had an accident with only a car license)

So there really is no way anyone can answer that without knowing where you live, your age, and the date the license was issued.

You need to take a riding course, around £400 for a 2-3 day course, usually with a guaranteed pass.

if you have a full driving licence then you Will only need to pass your CBT to drive 125 cc on L plates. This will only last you two years, after this you will have to sit your test or resit your CBT.

Go for it you won't regret it.
