When i turn the wheel to the left or right, a squeaking noise comes from both sides of the car, but mainly the left. It does it when the car is about to move off. It's only started doing this about two weeks ago.

When is the last time your (fan)belts were checked. If they are getting worn and stretched the extra effort needed to turn the steering that far, power steering pump working extra hard, will cause the belts to squeal. Then they get quiet again when that pressure is let off the power steering pump.

check the power steering fluid resevoir under the bonnet (will have a cap stating power steering fluid) make sure it is full to the mark on the side. If not got to your local garage/motor spares shop and you can buy a small bottle of steering fluid to top it up.
i had similar problem and it was simply low fluid.

If it's a squeal as opposed to a brief squeak (well, you know what I mean,) it'll be the belt driving the p/s pump.

check the belts that's probably where the fault is, if not spray some WD40 over the suspension bushes to see if that cures the squeaking.
