I will have a trip to Amsterdam, Netherland. It's my first time. So what is worth to see there and what is cheap there to buy as a souvenir?

Van Gogh Museum is a must:

Rijksmuseum deserves a visit too for the selection of Dutch painters; I loved the Night Watch:

Anne Frank house and museum; impressive the way that family lived during the terrible days of the war:

Go the Flower Market; you´ll see the endless varieties of flowers!!
Go for a tour through the canals.
Rent a bike and cycle around the city, it´s not very big and there´s a wonderful bike lane.
Visit one of the Diamond Factories, amazing!
Munt Plein (Munt Square), there´s a beautiful tower there.
Rembrandt Plein (Rembrandt Square); there´s a wonderful representation in metal of The Night Watch; at night is just wonderful.
Go along Kalverstraat, a long, pedestrian shopping street.
Visit this site:

I found it really useful and try its webcam. I did so before going and found out the name of one of the shops there; then once there, I used to stand at a fixed time for a couple of minutes so that my children could see me from home!!
Visit the Churches; I loved Oude Kirke (Old Church); West Church seemed to be beautiful in the outside, but it was closed when I was there. Check this site for churches:

i am dutch, go to waterlooplein, there is a market everyday with lots of stuff to buy and affordable, dont' go into them so called souvenir shops, rip offs. cheapest museum i think is the sex museum, only 2.50 entrancefee if you are in holland for a few days, get a train pass and a buscard, travel the country a bit, it's worth it, holland is sooooo much more than amsterdam.
food wise, well in winter time we have a few specialties but really we don't have too many real dutch dishes, you must try the haring , raw and grab it by the tail and eat it with onions, so damn good and o so dutch. enjoy your visit

Smoke & visit redlight district. Actually, compare to another country around...it's not that spectecular during this time of the year.

I suggest you to go to Netherland when Tulip is blooming. It's sooo beautiful.

Some cool T-shirt and wheats can be nice souvenirs for your friends xxx

The best thing to do is just to go to Amsterdam! Believe me, I'm Dutch! I would go to the Kalverstraat, they've got cute (but affordable shops) and I would go to the Anna Frank Huis, it's very interesting and there's usually not a long wait (I dunno about holidays though).

THE RED LIGHT DISTRICT, that is all you need, this place is amazing the view of course but the culture is out of this world.
