Despite what was played on CNN, he still pardoned Nixon, and would oppose you on pretty much everything you stand for other than the Iraq war.

Why do you suddenly adore the man?

I'm a life long Democrat/Liberal. As i recall, President Ford received more criticism from the Conservative right, than he ever received from the Liberal Left.

I personally think he was the most compassionate president America has ever had.

I believe president ford did his best to reconcile the country in the aftermath of Vietnam and Watergate. I thank him for that, because it was such a turbulent era in America's History.

Although at the time I didn't support him for pardoning Nixon. In later years, I realized it was the right thing to do. Had he not done this there would have been a long trial, which would have torn the country to shreds even further.

By issuing the pardon to Nixon. It stopped the conflict on watergate dead in it's tracks. Lib's and conservatives alike could only turn to hating ford for this.

President Ford Brought Integrity back to the Whitehouse. For this i am extremely grateful. Unfortunately the last 2 dick head's Clinton & Bush, have disgraced the presidency again with their stupidity.

OK - to be fair, I'm a moderate, but I'm guessing that the "libs" do NOT "adore the man" as you stated. Its considered very bad manners to speak ill of the dead. Gerald Ford vetoed every bill that ever crossed his desk. It took an act of congress to get a jobs bill through during a nasty recession that overrode the president's veto. Respect the office of the President of the United States? Yes. LOVE Gerald Ford? RESPECT is a better word, and by the way perhaps you have forgotten that he was CIVIL and POLITE even to his political adversaries? Both sides of the aisle could learn a great deal from that judging by the politics of personal attack that Karl Rove hath wrought down upon us.

BTW: Gerald Ford opposed G.W. Bush on the war in Iraq - so maybe he was a... liberal?

Why would Liberals bash the President that placed Justice Stevens on the High Court? Realistically Ford was a big time Moderate who knew how to work together with both sides of the aisle from his 30 years in the House.
After his Presidency Ford was a great statesman who pushed for issues that continued his centrist approach. There is no reason to bash a man who valued compromise.

Historical retrospect.

This is way back in 1974-1977.

Wager that 80% of people on YA were not even alive in 1974.

And what other issues do there seem to be besides IRAQ?
Gay Marraige....Abortion....and Stem cell research.
I haven't read Gerald Fords recent opinions on these issues.
And, he hasn't been President for almost THIRTY YEARS!

note: I was 23 in 1974....lot of partying. Watergate and Nixon were serious distractions. The issues back then were the economy...inflation/recession.

It is never good to bash the president of the United States of America after his death. This is a time to remembrer President Gerald Ford and his contributions to the United States of America.

President Ford was a human being with a family and friends. He is now deceased. Only the most ignorant of human beings are unable to show respect for one who has passed. Many Democrats oppose the war but are still saddened and respectful when one of our soldiers die. Not only is it a matter of respect and compassion, but it is a matter of patriotism - honoring those who have served our country in any capacity.

He has been 'one up-ed' by this administration. After a person is done being president, he doesn't have to play partisan politics. See "CLinton and Bush Sr." Besides, dems don't seem to want to keep america divided, why do you? And besides the Iraq war...What else is there besides the Iraq war? That's how and why america voted, and even republicans disagree with Bush's assessment. I guess when it comes down to it, you could say that 'we don't dislike republicans, we dislike Bush'. Bush is a sorry excuse for a republican...

Now that he's criticized Bush from the grave libs will probably break out the unused tookie candles and have a vigil! You never saw Ford go overseas and criticise the President like the peanut farmer did though.

The office of the presidency is greater than any one man. Liberals would still debate many of his stances, but his stances had changed since his presidency, and now he's dead. Liberals are mature and intelligent enough to respect that a man can disagree and still be respected.

Get real, conservative, Ford was what the republican party stood for before it became polluted with the Bush Gene Pool.

He was more disgusted with the GOP than I am, and unfortunately, no one knew until after he died.
