Watching alot of that kind of movies will not only make you come over your 'fear' but also make the genre boring to you. When you see more, you get the feeling you have seen all of it. I would really love to be in your position. A good movie is a movie that really scares you and holds you awake when you want to sleep. Don't try to be at a distance with the movie and also do not try to stay detached from the movie. Just don't watch that kind of movies when you want to sleep well for a night.

My suggestion to you would be to evaluate the movie when you've seen it. Praise the way it scared the hell out of you. And then conclude that the movie is over. When you want to sleep, do not think about it anymore (I any case, do not try to think about anything when you want to sleep ;) When you do think about it, realize that it is just a (very good) movie and not reality. And for sure: They are not in your bedroom! Good night :)

You could also read a book before you get asleep. Pick a nice romantic comedy for instance. It gives you another more peaceful mind set.

My question is, do you really want to watch scary movies?

But if you do then do this. Start off by watching 'Scary Movie' 1-4?

Then, once you've had a good laugh, gather a friend or two and watch the movies that the made fun of. This way, you'll remember the funny things during the scary parts.

OMG I know what you mean. Well, I can watch scary movies like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, and Friday the 13th without getting scared at night, but freaky movies that have to do with the supernatural like the Grudge and The Ring, woah, I get scared. I saw The Ring in early November and I still look in the corner of my room, thinking that little girl is hiding over there. But its all in my head I guess. My mom said that whenever I get scared, I should imagine the director and filming people all surrounding the scene, making the movie, so its obviously fake. Hope I helped. =)

Hey Murder,

A good way to get over scary movies is to keep in mind that they're fake. This may be easier for me since I went to school for Media Arts, so I know just how fake these movies can be and what they do to try to have everything look realistic.

If you watch enough 'The Making Of: [Enter Typical Movie Title Here]' shows, you'll realize that these things are not real at all.

To be honest, watching the news scares me more than movies!!

I think that is the point of a scary movie.... I was like that after Amittyville Horror, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Exorcist of Emily Rose....I couldn't go into the bathroom by myself or look in a mirror.

I just got over it, but it all happens again when watching a really good scary movie!!!!

Will you get over your fear...probably not.

My advice: don't watch a scary movie alone!

You are over your fear and don't even realize it. It may affect you for a few days but I gather with time you forget about it and go back to your normal way of living. We all in some way are affected by the movies we watch. It may be as subtle as how we react to people or as extreme as being afraid to go out or to go to sleep. If you are finding that it is getting a bit extreme what helps me is the realization that its just a movie and those people on the screen are just actors. There is nothing wrong with being afraid. Hell, isn't that why you go to see the movie in the first place?

I understand how you feel. I love the hell out of scary movies/books etc. I get creeped out easily or put myself into the story. I had the same issue with the Ring. The stupid part at the end where she crawls out of the tv creeped me out major! LOL I agree with the watching them in the daytime part. Also, NEVER NEVER NEVER watch a scary/creepy movie directly before going to bed. Your mind has a tendency to dream about the last thing you watched/read/saw etc because it's vivid in your mind. For instance, I've been playing Splinter Cell 3 on my PS2 for like 3 days straight always going to bed soon after. I starting having dreams they were trying to kill me in my sleep. The best thing is to either watch them in the daytime, watch with friends (one's who don't get freaked out are better because they help to calm you), don't watch before bed, and also, watch the spoofs. All the Scary Movie spoofs, or I Know What You Did Last Friday the 13th. LOL Hope to help.

first off i want to thank the movie business for allowing us to be in the movie with the sound effects
if your having problems with scary movies than watch them while surrounded by people. but make sure they are not as scared as you or that will do nothing

Try to remember that horror movies are all fake. When I was a kid, my father showed me the movie Poltergeist and it scared the hell out of me. When I was in high school, it was on in the afternoon and I watched it again and it wasn't as bad. Then I watched other horror movies from when I was a kid and they were all tame. They weren't real and it didn't bother me anymore.
