Default, spouse, because of the legal tie there. Marriage is a contract. Also, the state often inherits quite a bit of your money, if there is no will.

Things owned jointly (bank account, house, cars) go to the other owner. Things with a beneficiary statement (insurance, IRA's) go to the beneficiaries. Everything else goes to the spouse. Taxes only apply to the IRA's. There is no estate tax if it all goes to the spouse. It is not as complicated as Hollywood would make you believe. Rules of intestate succession vary by state; even so, the spouse wins over any&all brothers and sisters.

It will go to the Spouse, The brothers and sisters may try to make a claim, but the spouse is the successor. Otherwise if no relatives can be found it all goes to the state.

i have no will myself and have been looking into this... if you are in the uk. nothing is set in stone.. the government can take it then all relatives etc have to then fight to receive it..through the courts i think. a will is a must anyway it easier, no legal battles and your word is legal and cant really be changed. whereas if you dont have one it is not easy to sort out.. better to prevent in the first place than having to fix later

Default is spouse as the marriage is a contract, and basically says whats yours is mine and whats mine is yours.

I imagine the wife will get most of it. Though possibly the tax man might get a nice chunk. Everyone with any assets at all should make a will.
