Lots of practice, the pitch will come in time... Bringing it in, or to give it it's proper name, cueing, will help you find the pitch... Find that first 4/4 beat on a track, not always the first beat on a track... Dont be afraid to lift the stylus and move it about the vinyl, treat it with respect but get comfortable with using it... when you find the cue in, keep listening for the start of a "loop" on the track thats "live", then cue in at that point while listening to the monitoring track in the headphones with the other ear... cue in and you will hear it slipping if its not in time, then nudge pitch fader + if its going slower, and vice-versa, Also nudge the vinyl a bit too, sometimes the pitch is right but the beats can be just mis-placed a bit, practice this till youre comfortable....

Played violin and trombone at school, found that djing is a skill that can open your ears to music and sounds that a musician may not usually find inspirational...

What type of DJ? Radio; Club; Mobile; Hospital? Each one requires a different style.

I got better through practice, nothing else. In time you come to understand how you should follow one tune after another, read the crowd, see what's getting them going, figure out how to keep them up.
