You can get what are called "stick" pH meters for around $150. For most simple work they are accurate. They are usually good to 0.1 SUs with calibration.

Approximately $500-600. There are better meters for lots more money; this is the approximate price of an average bench-top meter. The pH probe is additional as are the buffer solutions needed to calibrate the meter.

Why buying a costly meter, keep stocks of calibration buffers, extra care for the electrode etc.? You can get pH paper strips in all ranges with chemical suppliers. Handy and cheap. This would satisfactorily meet the performances of an electronic device.

Check out Fisher Scientific. They have many different models. Here is one for 400 dollars, and it's portable.
