My fence on one side shows the braces/cross beams, and the other two sides its all flat like what "would" face the street.

Some boards are rotten and I want them changed-yet if its not mine-why bother you know! Also- I have outdoor art and climbing vine that can just cover it- so what IS MINE?

Oh-just ask the neighbor- that won't happen- we are the boheimians in this neighborhood-my back yard is my only self expression! I am literally moving all my stuff out back to make the front generic looking to please the homeowners assn. OR [seniors with nothing to do organization!] No offense to seniors!

I'm actually an artist- Masters Degree in Fine Art-yet can't put it up at my home-kinda sucks you know! Yet the neighbor has concrete skunks and deer! Oh gee!

The only liability will be the cost of the medical care. The dog was confined, there was no bite and it was reported as a scratch by the hospital. There was no permanent or long-term damage to the child. Since it was not clear what happened, the homeowners insurance will cover anything above the deductible. If the costs were low, I wouldn't even report it. She doesn't have much of a case beyond the medical expenses. But solid fences are better for this reason. I'd consider getting one if I were the neighbor.

Usually, when you view your property from the front, the borders on the left are your responsibilty. However, if a fence is showing a flat side, this indicates that the fence may have been put up by your neighbour.
Wooden fences are usually erected with the flat side facing out, and the side with the cross beams facing in. This is partly so that it is more difficult for anyone outside the property to either hold and lift the fence panels, or climb up and over them to gain access to the property.

if you own - the better side faces out - check with the Homeowners rule - if you do not own - it is better to not hang things on it - some rules also say the fence needs to be setback so many inches off property line - so check that also. If you want to put stuff in the yard along the fence - - you might use posts in the ground

People face the fences different directions, some like to please others eyes (smooth side faces the street) some like to please themselves(smooth side faces their own backyard). So which way the fence faces isn't a reliable indicator of if you own the fence or not. Did you have a survey done when you bought the property, maybe the little markers are still there..they usually leave a little metal stick with a small orange flag to mark the corners of the property.

It is customary to erect fence with good side toward neighbor, street etc. However, just because the pretty side faces out from your property does not guarantee that it is your fence. Check with neighbors, city hall , find property markers etc to be sure. Sounds like you may even have an idiot for a neighbor that would complain if you fix his fence.

The side with the beams faces you if you own it.

You need to get in writing explicit clarification on what is allowed and what isn't. Most homeowners do not have to answer to any association as to what they decorate their yard with. I wouldn't live anywhere that did but that's just me.

If you own the fence, the nice part has to face out towards street or neighbors.
