First of all, I'm not throwing away the baby with the bath water. We all HATE Saddam for being a tyrannical monster that murdered and raped innocent civilians... It just seems that moral high ground is somehow lost. I don't know. This just seems vulgar to me...

Please shed some light on this for me in terms of ethics.

Iraq has history of eliminating Head of State by killing. In the presence of foreign troop, hanging is not advisable. We are feeling very uneasy about the situation in Iraq. It appears that gangsters have upper hand. People should be compassionate instead of cruel. Change of cu lure is required. Only people of Iraq can change their fate.
In the present situation death sentence will hardly have any impact as situation is already too depressed.

Well considering Bin Laden is still at large and Bush seems to have totally forgotten he was ever after him, and that the UK and US invaded Iraq without a good reason, and that I don't subscribe with the 'eye for an eye' theory without considering how many innocent lives Bush and Blair have ended in their war, the whole idea of humans taking another human's life is somehow morally uncomfortable in 2006

Ya know, it's funny, if he tried this crap in Canada and we wanted to hang him, I'd feel very uneasy and would probably join any protests against it. I'm not a fan of capital punishment. However, as it's "over there" I really haven't given it much thought. Those countries won't be happy until they've obliterated each other off the face of the planet. I say build a giant fence around it, take away there weapons, give em some clubs and spears, and let em go at it. That's horribly offensive, I know, but come on - why can't they just get along?

The only thing that concerns me about the execution of a man that murdered approximately 300,000 people is that some of the "misguided" might plant more bombs as a result. Normally I oppose the death penalty on grounds that a person MAY be innocent. Saddam murdered ~300,000, and the evidence is overwhelming. Remember how there was celebratory gunfire when the US troops captured him? I'm guessing the same thing might happen when he hangs.

To "NA200" below: are you crazy? Those people weren't innocent? YES THEY WERE - pick up a newspaper once in a decade or so!!! And America does NOT execute "HUNDREDS" of innocent people every year - where in the world are you getting your information from???

However you feel about the war in Iraq, Saddam deserves death for the thousands of his own people he killed for no good reason.
I do feel that to spend your life in prison is a far worse punishment than death, as execution is a quick, easy exit from your guilt... but knowing how primitive Iraq is, I'm sure that if Saddam was imprisoned in a Baghdad jail it'd only be a matter of time before he was broken free!

Saddam deserves to be punished but shouldn't there be some concern that his execution will enrage certain others to the point of endangering the innocent? And, if God is as forgiving as we all hope for ouselves, death could be a blessing for Saddam!

Saddam has lived a long life. He was in power for 35 years, survived two attacks by the American superpower. Now the history books will record a dramatic execution instead of a quiet passing away in a prison cell. He will go down with the ship shaking his fist in defiance

All people like this should be executed. It's too bad that some get away before they breed, therefore passing on these defective genes. Can you say Usay and Quday?

Ethically it is good practice for society to execute murderers, rapists, and child molestors to send a message that society will not tolerate this type of behavior, and you will lose your life if you practice these behaviors. They CANNOT be rehabilitated.

I know he has done unspeakable things to his people, I personally don't believe in the death penality, I feel his should have to pay for his crimes against his people. This hanging will be public and you know it will be all over the news and internet. Hatered is alive and well in the world! I wish I could shed some light on this issue but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Where ever he goes in the afterlife may his God Punish him to the fullist!

I have mixed emotions on this one. Of course he deserves to be put to death, however, if he's put to death his followers are going to crown him a martyr and I don't want any one thinking of that monster as a martyr. There's another thing in that if he is kept alive and just imprisoned for the rest of his life he is still a threat to the world. I can see his followers taking hostages and demanding his release and of course, either he would be released to save the hostages or else the hostages would be killed. So there's that too.
