You can't use firewire to connect to your VCR, but for sure you can use your TV tuner. Simply use the software that came with the tv tuner to record the video you want (because there isn't a generic program that could handle all of the tv tuners out there), and then use DVD authouring software to burn it on a dvd. Unfortunately, authoring software is really expensive, and cheap ones don't do a good job. But, if you don't mind putting your video on a CD, and you have windows XP, you could use Microsoft MovieMaker.

Good LUck!!!

You'll need a device like this:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=580965&CatId=1428

This plugs into a USB port on your system, then you would hook your VCR to this unit via the Composite cables (Red,Yellow,White), Press Play on the VCR and record with the included software.

I realize I'm simplifying it, but it really is easy - the main thing is to look at the hardware requirements for the device and make sure you meet/exceed them.

You could go a step further with a DVD recorder and copy the file to DVD once you've captured it. I do this with all of my nephew's basketball games.

You need the proper software to do this.. You will probably end up needing a tv tuner card and using svideo or something like that.. It isn't that easy unfortunately..

NO The VGA port on a working laptop or laptop is an output to an outdoors show show, now no longer in enter to the laptop's show show. on an identical time as connecting products, there is likewise so plenty extra suitable helpful than plugging in adapter cables. you're able to desire to evaluate the sign that the cables carry. RCA plugs are used to hold countless distinctive alerts. in terms of a VCR or DVD participant, they are generally colour coded. Yellow - NTSC composite video purple - precise audio channel White - Left audio channel. purple+Blue+green - separated video, generally in difficulty-loose words for DVDs or extreme definition kit. None of those video channels have compatibility with VGA. VGA needs many alerts which contain the separated video AND sync alerts. Converters have been made that would desire to transform the styles of alerts yet they fee extra suitable helpful than they are relatively worth. a miles better helpful answer might desire to be to the two get a low-fee television with the composite video and sound inputs or to seek for for a working laptop or laptop computing device show show that would desire to take them. the computing device show show has the convenience that it is plenty extra suitable determination than optimum laptop video show contraptions. My previous show show (20") had inputs for audio, composite video and S video as nicely to VGA. My modern-day show show (23" with digital television tuner) has inputs for television antenna (digital in difficulty-loose words), audio, separated video, DVI video, and HDMI video. all of it's video sources are for precise definition sources particularly of favourite definition sources like previous VCRs. probably making use of certainty it is determination is 2000x1200 pixels. HDTV is 1920x1080 pixels. favourite definition is 640x480 pixels.
