I'm sure it will depend on your location. Generally though, Social Service departments have codes on trying to place children with appropriate foster parents and race will play a part in that. If you specify that you would not consider fostering a child of one gender, they would take that into account - although it might impede your selection as a foster parent going forward.

when you become a foster parent, they give you the child's folder to review. it covers everything from age to race to sex, and all the trouble they have had or been in to. my advice is to read the file then meet the child. what looks bad on paper might not always be as bad as it seems . and what looks good isn't always very good. i had over 70 kids through my home when i was a foster parent. and to most of them I'm still dad to this day. the youngest one i still have contact with is now 20. and stops by to see me or calls at least once a week

It depends... If you plan to become an adoptive parent, then absolutely!! In fact, one of the many forms you will fill out asks what gender and race you would like.

If you want to be strictly a foster parent, then probably no. Now, that said, you could request children of a certain gender/race. For example, if you don't have much room and already have 1 boy living with you, then if you wanted a girl, she'd have to have her own room. If you have several children, after a certain age, they each would need their own rooms.

You can say what type of child you are willing to take and that will be kept in mind, but then you will get calls for any kids that they think they might be able to talk you into. For example, if you say you want kids 3-5 years old, you might get a call for a 2 or 6 year old. If you say you want boys, you might get a call for a sibling group that is one boy and one girl. Just because you get the call however, you are not required to take the kid. You should bear in mind that the child you have in mind might not be in the system in your area, so you do not want to get too specific about who you are interested in fostering.

Not all the time, you get the child who is next to be placed. It may be an emergency situation and you will not have a choice. If the child needs a safe shelter, then you open your doors, regardless of the race or gender.
You can always put your requirements in, but when it comes to urgent care, you take who needs you.

Why does it matter......as long as the child/children are in a loving household! You should truly be ashamed of yourself. This is not the point of being a foster parent! I don't think your fit to be a foster parent if your asking this question!

I strongly suggest you rethink your decission to become a foster parent if you're a racist or sexist bigot. That's not a healthy place for children at all.
