The only real other alternative to dsl/dialup (phone) and cable (coax) is satellite.

If you have a mobile phone/cell phone, you can get internet on your pc. All you need is a data-cable. Plug your phone into your computer and install the software and then; the softwares included usally have a modem option but if not, your computer should automatically recognise it as a modem.

I recently heard about satellite internet service. It doesn’t use cables or phone lines I believe.

Possibly, through satellite, like Hughesnet. It will be just as expensive as getting an extra phone number, or cable, if not more.
