No, it can upset the electrolyte balance in an infant. Also, if they are drinking enough liquid and they have enough wet diapers for their age and stage, they should be fine.
If they do have vomiting and or diarrhea you should seek medical attention for them. Babies dehydrate very quickly, and it is important to keep them hydrated.
Always check with your doctor before giving any medication, even over the counter medication to anyone, especially babies.

Staying hydrated never hurts anyone. But the question is, will he drink milk, juice, or water? Pedialyte is pricier than water, juice, or milk when just using it for a regular drink. So if he will drink other stuff, I'd recommend going that route. Try giving him clear juices and water and occassionally milk throughout the day to keep him hydrated. However, the next question I have is does he drink? I mean, if he's drinking regularly, there's really no NEED to give him Pedialyte. Pedialyte is specially formulated for children to promote quick absorption and contains an appropriate, clinically proven balance of fluid and electrolytes (www.pedialyte.com).
Based off of Pedialytes website, I think it should only be used for hydrating. It doesn't contain a magic ingrediant to cure colds, etc, so I don't think it'd really be benefitial if he IS drinking other fluids.
Good luck and I hope he gets well soon!

Pedialyte is use to help keep him hydrated. If he is not vomiting or having diarrhea he probably does not need it. Just make sure he is urinating like usual. Just treat his cold symptoms. If you are anxious about it, just give your pediatrician a call (usually the nurse) can be a great help

I love pedialyte fro my daughter. When the are sick they need more fluids and I dont like giving her lots of juice, Gatorade or soda they are to high in sugar so i prefer to give her pedialyte when she is sick and when she is not it is proven to be better and you can stop dehydration before it starts. I also like the freezer pops now that she is old enough to have them.

Giving an infant electrolytes for a cold will not lessen the effects of the cold. (Colds are viruses, and do not deplete the electrolytes in the body) On the other hand it wont hurt the child either. Basically it is a waste of money, but if you wish to use it, you can.

I probably wouldn't. There's no need for it if your child is not dehydrated. The purpose of Pedialyte is to rehydrate, and if your child is drinking enough, then he should not need it. Good luck with your sick baby.

No, it won't help him at all. It is made for when they are vomiting and have diarrhea to help them stay replenished..so they don't dehydrate. It won't help for a cold. I have always used Triaminic for my kids' colds...that's an awesome med. Good Luck to ya.

No. It won't help any. If you want to do preventative medicine, start keeping oranges in the house during winter and feed him one a day or everyother day. It seems to help my family.
