I'm looking for a laptop that is definitely under $1000 and the more inexpensive the better. I'll be using it to surf the web, email, download music, burn CDs and use MS Office possibly. I know there are some that are Vista compatible but I'm not sure how important that is...so if anyone can offer any suggestions that would be great, thanks

Genuine Windows XP Media Center
Intel(R) Core(TM) Solo processor T1350 (1.86 GHz)
14.1" WXGA Widescreen (1280x800)
Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 950
HP Imprint Finish + Microphone
512MB DDR2 System Memory (1 Dimm)
80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
Networking 802.11b/g WLAN
6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Microsoft(R) Works/Money

>> $ 710

14.1" is just about right for a notebook, a 15.4" is pretty un-portable
win xp media centre is great & a solo core processor should do fine 4 you., ram is 512 mb in single slot, so you can update at ease to 1 gb at a later date, should you need to
___________

agree, dell have a few great deals at their outlets
duo core inspirion e1405 for $ 710 with a gig of ram >> cool

We went to circuit city looking for a laptop for the same things that you are wanting. We were looking at an Acer brand and the salesman came up to us and offered a Toshiba that is no longer in production. Since its not made anymore we were able to get it at a great price about $700 and although the PC could not be fixed if it ever breaks, we can take it back and get a full refund or the amount of the pc put towards another laptop for the entire life of the warranty.

It wouldnt hurt to go in and ask if they have any older models in the store room.

They have great laptops from their latest models that are either refurbished or scratch and dent. They carry full warranties and even come with technical support and their shipping is next day and sometimes even free.

You can't customize the laptops as much at the Dell Outlet but they should have one that works just fine for what you need.

I bought two laptops and a flat screen LCD monitor for my web-design business for just under $1200 from there. It was great!

Hope that helps!

Dell has had some good sales on laptops under $1K. You don't need Vista, Windows XP is fine.
