.. I was asked to design a memorial to be place in on of Dahab squares, Sinai!
It should tell of peace and it should harmonize with both the place and the time!

What would you suggest for that?

Congratulations! You must be very excited. I sure would be excited to have such a wonderful project. I do not know your medium. But, these times are about globalization and humanity finally becoming all connected because of air travel and communications technology and the Internet. There are troubles associated with so many different cultures bumping into each other. But, nevertheless, we are now becoming more connected than we ever have before. We also have bigger challenges than we ever have had before, including global warming, new diseases, finding effective alternative energy because oil is running out by 2070, nuclear dangers, clashes of cultures and learning how to get along without taking our differences to war. This is also a time when the common man in every land is concerned about power and money accumulating in fewer and fewer hands. Freedom is the common goal of all peoples. One must be able to think for oneself to remain free. We strive to educate our children so that they can think for themselves and to have the wisdom to remain free and to build better societies. We do have most wonderful commonalities . . .our love for our children, our hopes for their futures, their right to a good education, and a dream of peace without enslavement. To harmonize with the time and place, a "memorial" would be about these hopes and dreams. Children, education, optimism, peace and freedom. If I had such an exciting project, I would consider weaving those hopes and dreams in an explosion of joy that spiralled upwards in an airy way, in a double helix within a double helix, like our common DNA. You should let us know someday what you create. I would very much like to see it.

seems to me that the desert around that area will be the backbrop that you play against so it would be interesting to do something in cast concrete with crushed granite in it for texure and a bit of color and that material needs no maintainence for a long long time. It is economical to use and responds well to forming in molds and can be taken to the site already done, in pieces or cast there.
What happens if you use the eternal sign of peace, the dove form in a very contemporary shape almost like origami intertwinded with the classic DNA strands that Patois mentioned in her excellant answer. The bottom of the casting could have multiple hand prints of people from all ages embeded in it to represent the idea that many hands me light work and that only together thru work can we ever hope to accomplish what needs to be done.

The dove is a bibically related image and the DNA in scientifically related this is a very necessary mix if we are to survive on this planet.

You could have people all over that area put their hand prints into fresh concrete and then attach those slabs to the main body after it is installed. Think about the texture changing from rough to ever finer as the piece works its way up ward so that at the tip it is finely polished to represent the efforts of many who work for the refinment of us all. a portion of it could also be highly polished to reflect the sun so that its elements are sand , which it would have as part of its make up, and would be seen rising out of the desert signifying that even the smallest things on this earth have their rightful place and can eventually become something much larger than themselves, water which the desert will bloom because of, and steel which is the word we use for those who show spirit in the face of adversity and strife in this life.

Be ever so pleased that you have that commission and let your heart be your final guide as to what becomes your contribution to that area and indeed the entire world of art. congrats
