The simple and easy answer is to quit and go to the other job (as others have pointed out). However, there are other considerations too. First off, is the other company as stable as the one your presently at? What will the benefits be at the new job - are they comparable? Also, is there any room for advancement at the new job? Another often over looked consideration is that does the new company have more or less prestige associated with it? By this I mean, in the future when another potential employer is looking at your resume, which company and or position will look better? You can't put a price on happiness and $1k a year isn't much for better working conditions and less time spent at work, but I'd never make these decisions lightly. I know I have in the past and have regretted it ever since. Good luck to you.

If you are not happy then quit. There is nothing worse than going to work every day at a place you hate, it eats you up and leaves you miserable. You say you will only be taking a $1000/year pay cut but also working far less hours? Sounds good to me. Sounds like it wont hurt you financially too much and will allow you a lot more free time to do things you enjoy. Make sure it is secure for you to move to the new job and quit the one that makes you unhappy.

Rachel, if you have no pension plan (and I do not mean 401k because you would take most of that with you), and you do not have any room for growth in your current job, I would definitely take the other job IF you got along with former boss.

Change usually equals growth, in skills, opportunities and education. If you take the new job go into it feeling like you are going to help build a business, not just work a job.

Good luck to you!

I would not quit. Ur current job seems fine, but the hours are crazy. If u can afford that kind of pay cut go fort it. Do somethin new, but u have to look at where ur financial needs are and which job will benefit you.

If you feel you would be happier working with your former boss and your finanances can handle it...go for it. It is not always a matter of money when it comes to a job. You have to be happy working there and feel you get some support from your boss.
Good luck!

I would give it some thought if you are able to survive the pay cut. Depending on how your bills & personal finances are structured you should see if it's feasible. It sounds like a good move but weigh out the pros & cons of each before making your decision. Best of luck to you in your decision.

YES!!!

working 15-30 hours less a week is well worth $1000 less per year

I'm considering going back to school to be a teacher so I only have to work 185 days per year
