Lincoln won on his first bid for Presidency, but I read somewhere that he lost something like 9 elections for state and local government before finally being elected to Congress. Just goes to show that you can't give up!

Yes, Lincoln won both times he ran for President. Quite a feat, when one takes into account that his only other experience in politics at the national level was a term in Congress in the 1840'S.
