In my opinion it’s become very commercialised, with more focus being put on the top selling toys, Boxing day sales, fairy lights and Santa. Coming from an atheist, this will sound weird, but it’s like peeps have forgotten Christmas is about Jesus rather than whether little Johnny will get 8 or 9 presents this year…

Even as commercialized as Christmas celebrations of any kind always have been, there's something about the feelings of family and giving and peace that transcend the trashiness of the celebrations. It's sort of like, whatever Jesus stood for comes through and it's the one time of the year when all Christians and all folks raised in Christian families, however they may have drifted, feel something very GOOD, the kind of goodness that I believe Jesus would have valued. I cringe everytime I read a Christian bemoan how "atheists" have no understanding or appreciation for the "true" meaning of Christmas. How much more "true" can it be than to feel that wonderful day of family and giving and peace?

The meaning of Christmas has died a long time ago. Everyone is matrialized everything about it. Its not about Santa Claus anymore, Its not about the birth of Jesus anymore. Its all about selfishness (What can I get, What do I want, etc). I'm not an atheist but I have noticed that the more Christmas' that pass the more and more Santa because a God like image. Look parents threaten there children by saying if your not good then Santa won't bring you any presents (meaning Santa see's all). Also Santa has become the Judge, Jury, and executioner (meaning if you have been bad then Santa has judge you, and says that you will either get coal or nothing meaning thats what goes down with the jury and when its time for him to deliver that's the executioner and you either recieve nothing or coal). And I always thought that people said that God says he see's and hear's everything. That God is our Judge, Jury, and Executioner. So if that's so then why is Santa doing the same thing? LOL just something to think about. But the meaning of Christmas has died a long time ago and with the world losing morals everyday the meaning won't comeback for a long time. Hope this helps to see it from a different perspective. Good Luck.

The meaning of Christmas may have died, but there are still people who keep up the Christmas spirit. Some people think it's all about the gifts and Santa coming to their houses, but Christmas is really about the birth of the Christian saviour Jesus Christ, God's "son". If some people didn't notice, the word "Christ" is in Christmas. Christmas is not to be celebrated by how many gifts you have, but again by the birth of Christ. I hope the spirit doesn't die out within the next few generations, because then people will get sad

Christmas began as a Pagan holiday called "Yule" and has been incorporated with the birth of Jesus in the last couple of hundred years, therefore, Christmas is really not all about Jesus. Yule coincides with the Winter Solstice which occurs on December 21st and is the longest day of the year. I think it means different things to different people. It's nice if people want to commemorate the birth of Jesus if that is their religion, but it truly is not a Christian holiday unless you make it one.

The meaning hasn't died, but it's very sick. People are so afraid to say Jesus or even Christmas so it's the hollow, p.c. "Happy Holidays" Even the Christmas cards show mostly snowmen, trees and I got very few cards (less than 1 in 5) that had a nativity scene or wise men on them.

It has become very commercial but the true meaning is not dead and must never die. It is up to parents and teachers to keep the true meaning of Christmas alive. It doesn;'t matter what you believe the story of Jesus is beautiful whether you believe or not. And those that study it should believe it.
Happy New Year and God Bless.

I Miss the real meaning of Christmas. It's all about Christ's birthday and all people think about is (so called Santa Claus), Old man winter, presents, and not even thinking about the real meaning of Christmas. News Flash people, if it wasn't for Christ and his birthday of December 25th, then you wouldn't be here today and same for the others around you. I hate how people totally forget of the reason why they are celebrating Christmas. And i aboslutley hate how people say X-MAS, it is CHRISTmas for a reason because CHRIST is in the name and it was pronounced CHRIST-MASS So, don't say X-MAS ! that shows you have no care for Christ.

No! Just because some people have commercialized it, doesn't mean everybody has! Thousands of people still believe Christmas is about celebrating Jesus' B-day!

I totally agree with you! Where has the real meaning of Christmas gone? All you see now a days is Christmas commercials in July and Aug promoting new products! Kids just dont appreciate Christmas anymore. All they care about is presents, presents, and more presents! ! ! What is happening to our society?! And the innocence of children?

To some yes, but not to me. Christ is the reason why we celebrate Christmas. LOVE is the essence of it, that's why Jesus came in a form of man.
