If u give pure oxygen which is very corrosive and causes damage to the baby.
In order to minimize this effect instead of pure O2 some CO2(stimulates respiation) or Nitrogen(inert) is provided.

Oddly, carbon dioxide stimulates breathing. You feel like you're suffocating not because you're running out of oxygen, but rather because you have an excess of carbon dioxide.
