you really aren't supposed to start them until they are 4 months, however, i just started my guy on cereal and he's 3 months, but he is the size of a 6+ month old and he eats about 36 oz of formula a day...big kid.
anyway....i made a mommy decision to give him something with a little more sustaining power and he loves it!!!
so, use your mommy judgement.
we are giving him about 1 tblspn every night around dinner time. if i was a stay at home mom, then i'd give it to him around lunch time, but his daycare won't do cereal until he is 4 months, so we are doing it at home in the evening.
get the plain rice cereal and mix it with formula or breastmilk and make it pretty thin. then let him chow down!!!
some people put it in a bottle for them, but i found that to get the nipple gunked up.
take care and don't forget the camera!!!!!

By all accounts in the books I have read, three months is too early. Your baby should be at least 4 months and closer to six months before beginning solids. Also, all the books I have read have strongly advised against giving any cereal in a bottle. It encourages obesity because baby is getting something really calorie dense in what feels like a pretty insubstantial (liquid) form. All that being said, I know people who started cereal at a few weeks old.
If you're set on trying it anyway, I would suggest around lunchtime or late afternoon/early evening (I did it around 5:00). I would make up a tiny bit of cereal (I started with 1 teaspoon dry rather than a tablespoon) and make it really runny (I used 4 teaspoons of breastmilk). If baby is able to take in some cereal and swallow it from the spoon, you're probably OK to keep going with the cereal. If baby is unable to swallow any of the food from the spoon, it's pointless to try to keep feeding it to him. Wait a few weeks and try again.

Even now is a good time. Right at 4 months, I started putting some rice cereal in his bottle (had to make the hole in the nipple a little bigger with a needle though, FYI)
Around 5-6 months is when I started feeding him cereal from a bowl.

Right now is fine. Try with their next bottle. I wouldn't put more than a tablespoon in the bottle to begin with, Or you could try it on its own. But a lot of babies don't like the flavor of cereal by itself. Mix it with some formula or breastmilk so it will taste somewhat familiar to them but still be something new. Don't let people tell you that three months is too young for cereal. It's not! My son has been getting cereal in his bottle since he was three months old.

i give my 3 month old daughter a bottle with cereal at night every other night. ( I do every other night because it makes her stool a little harder to pass) Just use a fast nipple with about a tablespoon of cereal. Everyone says four months but she was always hungry all the time so I tried it. Seems to be working well for us.

4 to 6 months. Never give cereal in a bottle. Wait until the baby is showing signs of readiness like somewhat supporting itself in sitting position. Tongue thrusting should be minimal so that baby is able to swallow food. Any earlier, the baby's digestive system is not ready for anything but formula or breastmilk.
