bistort means a plant with an S-shaped underground stem rhizome. Flowers: bright pink, in spikes. Use: formerly, in medicine. Native to: Europe, Asia. Latin name Polygonum bistorta.

The only word similar to this is "bistort". It's a plant... a perennial herb. Its roots are used as an astringent (sorta like calamine lotion).
