Yeah there is, but its like the Hoover(TM) being used instead of vacuum cleaner.

One manufacturer calls it a Bola, another is Kanon (get it Kanonball...)

The England one is bespoke and called Merlin!

Ball Throwing Machine For Cricket

A typical (i.e. affordable) bowling machine has two counter-rotating spindles between which special dimpled, hard, rubbery balls are fed - do NOT use ordinary cricket balls as you'll ruin them! By tweaking various knobs, you can change ball speed (up to about 80 mph on the cheaper models) by increasing the rotation speed of both spindles, or introduce in- or out-swing by slowing down only one of the spindles. To get spin rather than swing, turn the machine to the vertical rather than the horizontal - they're normally tripod-mounted and height-adjustable.
Speaking as a batsman I don't like them as I find they throw out my trigger mechanism and I react too slowly. If you can get over that, though, they are an excellent batting aid, as if you want to practice a certain shot you can get ball after ball fed in the correct area for the shot.

As far as I know they are called ballista's after the weapons that the Roman's used to use for tossing stones at defences I may be wrong.
