It is very difficult to find the cleaner for an electric percolator; many are on the market for glass pots. I heard something about white vinegar and water, is this so and if it is, what are the ratios?

I have been using the same electric percolator for the past 7+ years. To clean mine I add 2 Tablespoon of dishwasher soap (That is dishwasher soap not liquid dish soap) to the basket and run it through. After it is finished I wash it out as the residue will be easy to wipe out. Then I run 2 pots of clear water through it and then make my regular coffee. Hope this helps.

I have to say ditto on all the answers you've received. White vinegar is the BEST.
I use it full strength - probably a cup & a half, then run 2-3 pots of plain water through to clean out the vinegar.
One thing that hasnt' been mentioned is the smell - it is pretty strong so you might want to open a window.
Good luck!

white vinegar is an all around cleaner. Depending on the build up in your pot. You can use it full strength. It won't hurt your pot. When you finish brewing, you may need to wipe out the inside of the pot. Then flush it with water. Did you know adding white vinegar to the rinse cycle when washing towels will make them more absorbant?

Pure white vinegar. 2 cups and just put it in there straight and turn on the coffee maker. When it runs through, run pure water through twice.

You can use straight vinegar. It won't hurt the percolator.
