I understand the "agreement" but the reason they gave didn't even correspond to what my answer addressed. Are they often irrational in their condemnation of an answer?

Ike...No I didn't reference body size....I said the asker had left him/herself off the list and I would vote for HIM/HER.

The violation, according to the email, was for "Chatting and Personal Communication"

It is really no big deal, but it just made no sense to me.

Their "enforcement" has nothing to do with any alleged "inappopriate" comments. Questions and comments that are censored are rarely "in violation", while many things that are offensive or "violate yahoo's rules" never are. I have seen trolls who post "questions" or "comments" that advocate or speak hate and murder against certain people, and their inflammatory garbage is never removed.

From my observations, comments and quesions are consored for two reasons, and often a combination of both:

1. Yahoo is trying to give the illusion of enforcing its "rules", but given how haphazardly (at best) and hypocritically (at worst) that they do it, they are hardly concerned with actually doing it.

2. The individuals who censor questions and comments do so based on their own personal biases, and NOT based on yahoo's rules. I have seen anti-hate comments be censored, valid and inoffensive anti-Bush comments be censored, and many other views silenced by "moderators" who are anything but moderate; fascist would be a better description of their opinions and mentalities. Whether or not a comment is censored depends on the "moderator" and time of day, and NOT "yahoo's rules".

Additional:

Jen, in the past I have done what you say, "do it yahoo's way", and they don't have the decency to respond. I was censored yesterday for saying the "'left behind' books are hate literature" and pointing out that the "left behind" video game rewards killing non-christians. (Read up on the game, it's true.)

The "reason" given for censoring me? "Insulting other participants". Unless Tim LaHaye is posting here, I didn't, but yahoo doesn't have the decency to admit to that.

Anyone who has a problem with a violation they received can just mosey on over to the Y!A forum and post under that thread. The Y!A staff will get back to you with either more information about why your stuff was deleted or they will agree with you that the stuff was wrongfully labeled as a violation and give your points back to you.

From what I've seen so far on Y!A most things that get deleted are because they are personal communications/chatting. Like all the people who posted "Merry Christmas" as a question. Yeah it's nice to wish everyone a good holiday, but it's chatty and not even a question. (Before y'all jump on me for something I didn't do... I didn't report those things!!! But it is a good example of something very nice that happens to violate the guidelines.)

Edit: At the risk of being deleted for chatting. Yeah MC I can see the frustration. It's happened to me, too. Opinions do get deleted along with true violations.

Just for those who haven't visited the forum here's the link:

Yahoo! Answers is one of the few websites out here where we as a community decided from the get-go that we were not going to turn the space into a junkyard.

As a result, a set of guidelines was established aimed at making Y! Answers the coolest, most accurate questions and answers forum on the internet.

You can read those guidelines here: http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines.php

We look forward to more good questions from you! - Stuart

The are not getting diverse love. This internet site grow to be began as a fashion for Yahoo to do marketplace study for unfastened and save song of what's cool happening and upcoming devoid of having to pay a marketplace study employer. They get uninterested of their jobs and that they decide directly to work out how far they are able to push human beings. next time attempt beginning an argmuent with them as quickly as they notify you. you would be surprised how long you are able to hold on.

They couldn't read the burger-building charts at McDonald's. I can't imagine why yahoo would want them.

They are certainly contextually challenged. Apparently hav a hard time with literacy as well. Their dictionary apparently states that a c0ck is a vulgar male variety of a chicken. Mine doesn't mention the vulgarity of the word.

Let me guess, you were the only one to give an answer in reference to body size. Am I right, because none of the other responses answered the question that was asked.

there are some specific terms and conditions you are required to agree with, when you sign up for yahoo! answers. When a q/a violates the terms, it gets deleted. i suppose if anyone reports it, because yahoo can't moderate this HUGE amount of q/a.

I dont have an answer, but i will sympathize with your feelings. Tey deleted one of my questions just because I asked "what is the best type of soap to put in a public fountain?" does that really seem that bad? no bad words, and as far as pranks go it is not even very distructive. But i do suppose that they do have an image to uphold. what that image is i dont know.

If the answer or question violates the Terms of Service, they most assuredly have the right to delete it. All of us using this site clicked OK for the Terms of Service, so we're bound to it.

Take a look at this. I reposted somebody else's question .

When "Captain Atheism" said it, it was deleted. When I said it, it wasn't. It's the SAME question, cut and pasted word for word, except for my addition at the end.

It ain't what's being siad, it's luck of the draw about who moderates a question.
