I'm betting you don't watch a lot of foreign films...and if you are tired of all of the Hollywood drivel that's been released lately...and c'mon, who isn't...give yourself a real treat and see some films from a completely different perspective. You won't regret it.

So...rent "Amélie" starring the wonderfully talented French actress, Audrey Tautou in one of her best movies (If you saw The Da Vinci Code, she played "Sophie"). The basic plot - "Amélie is a shy waitress in a Montmartre café. After returning a long-lost childhood treasure to a former occupant of her apartment, and seeing the effect it has on him, she decides to set out on a mission to make others happy and in the meantime pursues a quirky guy who collects discarded photo booth pictures." It is one of the most whimsical and magically entertaining movies I've ever seen.

Okay...rent "For Roseanna" (This is a foreign film...but it's in English, so not too many subtitles) Basic plot - "When loving hubby Marcello (Jean Reno...Captain Bezu, in "The Da Vinci Code") learns that his wife, Roseanna has scant weeks to live, he's determined to fulfill her last wish: to be interred beside her dead daughter. Trouble is, the local boneyard has only three vacant plots, which are first come, first served. While Roseanna plays matchmaker for the soon-to-be-widowed Marcello, he tries frantically to keep the other townsfolk safe and sound in this romantic comedy." Such a fun and touching movie.

Next, rent "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not" another great movie starring Audrey Tautou. This is a thriller that is so much more than this description - "With the streets of Bordeaux as backdrop, this thriller paints a picture of love gone awry. Angelique (Audrey Tautou), an artist and student, is in love and claims that her paramour, Luic, a cardiologist, is just as enamored of her. But is he? He's married, for one, and he and his wife are expecting a baby. Brokenhearted, Angelique decides her love should conquer all." Just when you think you know where this movie is going...it shifts and changes direction...amazing.

So butter some popcorn, invite your friends over and enjoy!

Well, you can't find a better or more wholesome movie than The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. or Kinky Coaches and Pom Pom Puss y Cats ( an actual title by the way ). Plan Nine from Outer Space is another good choice (rated the worst movie ever made, the special effects were breath taking, showcasing tin can lids suspended by fishing line to simulate flying saucers. Speilberg eat your heart out). Finally, there is the venerable Killer Tomatoes with unforgettable lyrics like " I really am going to miss her, a tomato ate my sister." The ultimate chick flick has to be An Affair to Remember, still a good choice no matter how many times you have seen it. Which segues to my next offer: Sleepless in Seatle. Cinderella Man is worth seeing again as is The "da Vinci Code". Of course, there is always Ishtar. If you can find it, the little publicized movie Conquest is something of a gem. It is set in the fictitious town of Conquest, Saskatchewan. Not a classic, but entertaining. It came out in 1998. Good luck, and make plenty of popcorn. I had to separate the letters in Puss y (as in Puss y Cats. Censorship run amok. )

LORD OF THE RINGS:
Fellowship of the Ring
The Two Towers
Return of the King

Those should take most of the day and into the night. But if ``old-fashioned'' to mean movies over 40 years old, might I suggest:

SABRINA (love story) Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn
REAR WINDOW (suspense/thriller) James Stewart
12 ANGRY MEN (drama) Henry Fonda
