In my past I was very wary of people and made no good friends. Now that I'm working I've built up my confidence a little bit but I only have one good friend that I hang out with. Yet I have tons of acquantances through work, people I chat with in the hall or in email, some that I grab lunch with whenever I'm in the city. I've asked a few of them if they want to do something on the weekend but they're quite busy socially so it's usually a no.

What should I do in order to stop ending up with just acqauintances?

Keep moving forward sounds like you are on the right track. We have to remember that our Friends are often caught up in thier own lives and keep moving forward.

Try to ask an questions that can never come out with answer no.
Such as,,,,," Wanna go to see movie with me on Saturday or Sunday?" kind of way. Which the other person has to reply as
A or B rather than yes or no.Good luck!!! This works damn good.

Also, don't be feeling dejected when someone refuses to.
Many are busy, even you are sometimes. Having one good friend is much much better than having tons of friends who don't care about you. You are so gonna be popular!!!
Believe and you shall have it!!!

One good friend is worth more than a thousand acquaintances. I have only two GOOD friends and these two are the ones I can really depend on. I know their little secrets and they know mine. We talk on the phone and make plans to do things weeks ahead. The acquaintances I have are lots of fun but rarely will any of them do much with me outside of the work environment. Be thankful for the friend you have and can count on. Your acquaintances are missing out and it's their loss, not yours.

You should have a cocktail party and invite everyone you work with! However, sometimes, it's good just to have only a few good friends. I know many people, but only choose to hang out with a handful of them. Good luck!
